  • ISO 9001 - Services Management

    Quality management systems — Requirements

    ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization:

    a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and

    b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

    All the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 are generic and are intended to be applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.

  • ISO 14001 - Environment Safety

    Environmental management systems — Requirements with guidance for use

    ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. ISO 14001:2015 is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability.

    ISO 14001:2015 helps an organization achieve the intended outcomes of its environmental management system, which provide value for the environment, the organization itself and interested parties. Consistent with the organization's environmental policy, the intended outcomes of an environmental management system include:

    · enhancement of environmental performance;

    · fulfilment of compliance obligations;

    · achievement of environmental objectives.

    ISO 14001:2015 is applicable to any organization, regardless of size, type and nature, and applies to the environmental aspects of its activities, products and services that the organization determines it can either control or influence considering a life cycle perspective.

  • ISO 45001 - Environment Safety

    Occupational health and safety management systems — Requirements with guidance for use

    ISO 45001:2018 specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, and gives guidance for its use, to enable organizations to provide safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving its OH&S performance.

    ISO 45001:2018 is applicable to any organization that wishes to establish, implement and maintain an OH&S management system to improve occupational health and safety, eliminate hazards and minimize OH&S risks (including system deficiencies), take advantage of OH&S opportunities, and address OH&S management system nonconformities associated with its activities.

    ISO 45001:2018 helps an organization to achieve the intended outcomes of its OH&S management system. Consistent with the organization's OH&S policy, the intended outcomes of an OH&S management system include:

    a) continual improvement of OH&S performance;

    b) fulfilment of legal requirements and other requirements;

    c) achievement of OH&S objectives.

    ISO 45001:2018 is applicable to any organization regardless of its size, type and activities. It is applicable to the OH&S risks under the organization's control, taking into account factors such as the context in which the organization operates and the needs and expectations of its workers and other interested parties.

    ISO 45001:2018 does not state specific criteria for OH&S performance, nor is it prescriptive about the design of an OH&S management system.

    ISO 45001:2018 enables an organization, through its OH&S management system, to integrate other aspects of health and safety, such as worker wellness/wellbeing.

    ISO 45001:2018 does not address issues such as product safety, property damage or environmental impacts, beyond the risks to workers and other relevant interested parties.

    ISO 45001:2018 can be used in whole or in part to systematically improve occupational health and safety management.

  • ISO 24510 - Environment Safety

    Activities relating to drinking water and wastewater services — Guidelines for the assessment and for the improvement of the service to users

    This document specifies the elements of drinking water and wastewater services of relevance and interest to users. It also provides guidance on how to identify users’ needs and expectations and how to assess whether these are being met.

    The following are within the scope of this document:

    —     the definition of a language common to the different stakeholders;

    —     the definition of key elements and characteristics of the service to users;

    —     the objectives for the service with respect to users’ needs and expectations;

    —     guidelines for satisfying users’ needs and expectations;

    —     assessment criteria for service to users;

    —     introduction to performance indicators;

    —     examples of performance indicators.

    The following are outside the scope of this document:

    —     methods of design and construction of drinking water and wastewater systems;

    —     the regulating management structure and methodology of operation and management of activities relating to drinking water and wastewater services, including contracting;

    —     topics relating to the system inside buildings.

  • ISO 24513 - Environment Safety

    Service activities relating to drinking water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems — Vocabulary

    This document defines individual concepts that together constitute a vocabulary common to different stakeholders with interests in water service provision. It is intended to facilitate common understanding and communication on the provision and management of service activities relating to drinking water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems.

    The following are within the scope of this document:

    — definition of a vocabulary common to the different stakeholders;

    — definition of key elements and characteristics of the service to users;

    — definition of the components of drinking water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems.

  • ISO 24516-3 - Environment Safety

    Guidelines for the management of assets of water supply and wastewater systems — Part 3: Wastewater collection networks

    ISO 24516-3:2017 specifies guidelines for technical aspects, tools and good practices for the management of assets of wastewater networks to maintain value from existing assets.

    ISO 24516-3:2017 does not apply to the management of assets of treatment plants, which are also physically part of the wastewater system and can influence the management of network assets.

    NOTE 1 The management of the following individual assets will be covered by ISO 24516‑4: wastewater pumping stations, retention and detention in the network, wastewater treatment plants and sludge treatment facilities.

    ISO 24516-3:2017 includes examples of good practice approaches on the strategic, tactical and operational levels.

    ISO 24516-3:2017 is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations and/or utilities operating wastewater networks, and all different roles/functions for the management of assets within a utility (e.g. asset owner/responsible body, asset manager/operator, service provider/operator).

    NOTE 2 Depending on the size and structure of an organization, the utility can decide to what extent it applies the guidance in this document, but in any case, the philosophy of this document remains applicable to small and medium utilities.

  • ISO 24516-4 - Environment Safety

    Guidelines for the management of assets of water supply and wastewater systems — Part 4: Wastewater treatment plants, sludge treatment facilities, pumping stations, retention and detention facilities

    This document specifies guidelines for technical aspects, tools and good practices for the management of assets of wastewater treatment plants, sludge treatment facilities, pumping stations, and retention and detention facilities in the wastewater system to maintain the value of existing assets.

    NOTE 1 For simplicity in reading this document, reference to wastewater treatment plants includes all the asset types described above.

    For further guidance on wastewater networks see ISO 24516-3.

    NOTE 2 For simplicity of interpretation of wastewater system assets, the management of pumping stations and retention and detention facilities in the network, excluded from ISO 24516-3, is addressed in this document irrespective of where these assets are sited in the wastewater system.

    This document is focused on the assets in wastewater systems typically owned or operated by wastewater utilities that are expected to meet users' needs and expectations over longer, sometimes multi-generational, periods.

    This document includes examples of good practice approaches on the strategic, tactical and operational levels.

    This document is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations and/or utilities operating wastewater systems.

    NOTE 3 Depending on the size and structure of an organization, the utility can decide to what extent it applies the guidance in this document. In any case, the philosophy of this document remains applicable even to small and medium utilities.

    NOTE 4 This includes all different roles/functions for the management of assets within a utility (e.g. asset owner/responsible body, asset manager/operator, service provider/operator).

  • ISO 24523 - Environment Safety

    Service activities relating to drinking water supply systems and wastewater systems — Guidelines for benchmarking of water utilities

    ISO 24523:2017 provides guidelines on good benchmarking practice of drinking water and wastewater utilities. It describes the basic framework and methods associated with benchmarking in the water sector. The guidelines are intended primarily for voluntary benchmarking.

  • ISO 24527 - Environment Safety

    Service activities relating to drinking water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems — Guidelines on alternative drinking water service provision during a crisis

    This document provides guidelines on alternative drinking water service (ADWS) provision during a crisis.

    This document addresses:

    a) ADWS principles and methods;

    b) ADWS operational planning and implementation.

    This document is not applicable to:

    1) planned water supply interruptions forming part of drinking water utilities' normal operations;

    NOTE However, many of the principles and methods described can be appropriate in such circumstances.

    2) drinking water supplied for the ongoing operation of key establishments and facilities during a crisis, such as hospitals, homes for the aged, schools, reception facilities and vital plants;

    3) water supplied for industrial, agricultural or commercial purposes;

    4) water supplied to temporary settlements such as refugee camps;

    5) the development and implementation of a crisis management system for water service, which is covered by ISO 24518 and ISO/TS 24520.

  • ISO 24528 - Environment Safety

    Service activities relating to drinking water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems — Guideline for a water loss investigation of drinking water distribution networks

    This document provides a methodology for undertaking a water loss investigation and establishing general principles for water loss management in drinking water distribution networks in order to improve the sustainability of drinking water utilities and protect the environment by saving water, energy and use of chemicals.

    This document establishes a procedure to estimate water loss components through water balance calculations and to define general principles of water loss management. This document deals with the preparation of a water loss management plan for water loss reduction and management projects but does not cover its execution.

    This document does not cover bulk drinking water supply systems, but can relate to pumping, storage and transmission within the drinking water distribution network.

    This document can be used analogously for non-public supply systems, raw water and industrial water systems.

    This document is intended for drinking water utilities and other stakeholders.

  • ISO 24521 - Environment Safety

    Drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems and services — Management of on-site domestic wastewater services

    This document provides guidance and requirements for the management of on-site domestic wastewater systems and services, using appropriate technologies in their entirety at any level of development.

    This document supplements and is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 24511 and ISO 24525. It includes guidance and requirements for the following:

    —     management of on-site domestic wastewater systems and services from the operator’s perspective, including maintenance techniques, training of personnel and risk considerations;

    —     management of on-site domestic wastewater systems (ODWS) from the perspective of owners and users;

    —     design and construction of ODWS;

    —     planning, operation and maintenance, and health and safety issues.

    This document is applicable to both publicly and privately operated on-site domestic wastewater (black and grey water) services, for one or more dwellings. In rural areas and areas under development, management is sometimes provided by the owners of the premises where wastewater is generated.

  • ISO 24566-1 - Environment Safety

    Drinking water, wastewater and storm water systems and services — Adaptation of water services to climate change impacts — Part 1: Assessment principles

    This document identifies and sets out principles for integrating climate change impacts into the planning and design activities of water utilities for the provision of water services. It also includes methodologies to assess the principles in the context of climate change and to provide examples of adaptations made.

    NOTE            Discussion of impacts and strategies for responses for stormwater, drinking water and wastewater utilities are intended to be set out in ISO 24566-2:—[1], ISO 24566-3:—[2] and ISO 24566-4:—[3], respectively, with examples of adaptations that have been made.

    Drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems and services — Adaptation of water services to climate change impacts — Part 3: Drinking water services

    This document provides guidance and requirements for identifying and assessing impacts of climate change on drinking water systems and for developing strategies for the adaptation to these impacts. The assessment of the impacts is based on the assessment principles described in ISO 24566-1.

    This document also provides examples of some of the impacts of climate change on drinking water systems and of the responses that have been implemented by municipal water services or by the relevant jurisdiction (e.g. municipality or region served by the service).

    Drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems and services — Guidelines for the provision of alternative water service for essential facilities during a crisis

    This document provides guidelines for alternative water service (AWS) provision during a crisis for the ongoing operation of essential facilities.

    This document addresses:

    —     AWS principles and methods;

    —     AWS operational planning and implementation.

    This document is not applicable to:

    —     planned water supply interruptions forming part of the drinking water utility's normal operations;

    NOTE            However, many of the principles and methods described can be appropriate in such circumstances.

    —     water supplied to temporary settlements, such as refugee camps;

    —     the development and implementation of a crisis management system for water service, which is covered by ISO 24518[1] and ISO/TS 24520,[2] or the development and implementation of AWS provision during a crisis for private users, which is covered by ISO 24527.[3]

  • ISO 24596 - Environment Safety

    Drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems and services — Guidelines for the planning and implementation of infrastructure hardening for water and wastewater systems

    This document provides guidelines for the planning and implementation of hardening of different water and wastewater infrastructures aiming to improve the resilience of water and wastewater services provided by water utilities through security measures.

    It applies to the determination of measures for the protection of water supply systems and sewer collection systems from unwanted or unplanned access, as part of risk management. This document is applicable to all water and/or wastewater utilities.

    This document does not include guidelines for the protection of large water sources such as lakes or rivers.

  • ISO 21939-1 - Environment Safety

    A method to calculate and express energy consumption of industrial wastewater treatment for the purpose of water reuse — Part 1: Biological processes

    This document sets out the general principles for, and provides guidance on, the quantitative characterization of the energy consumed by industrial biological wastewater treatment systems. It does not aim to characterize the treatment pollutants removal performance or process reliability or any other consideration in the selection of a wastewater treatment system.

    This document includes the following sub-systems of biological treatment system:

    — Biological reactors, which might be suspended growth or fixed film processes or a combination thereof, and can include anaerobic, anoxic and/or aerobic tanks and/or zones.

    — Solid-liquid separation processes such as sedimentation, flotation, or membrane filtration, used for clarification of the water before discharge to downstream processes, which can also involve the return of a the separated solids as sludge back to the biological reactor.

    — Any pumps, blowers and mixers for water circulation, mixing and air supply in and between the sub-systems listed herein.

    — Heating or cooling of the water for treatment.

    This document does not include the following subsystems of the biological treatment system:

    — Wastewater feed pumps.

    — Pre-treatment systems, which for the purposes of this document also include preliminary and primary treatment processes, such as but not limited to, screening, sedimentation, dissolved air flotation, chemical oxidation, oil separation.

    — Post-treatment processes, such as but not limited to, disinfection, desalination, ion exchange, sludge treatment and handling systems.

    — Site lighting or any energy consumption involved in office operation.

    — Energy recovery from processes such as anaerobic reactors producing biogas.

    Filtration processes, which are sometimes part of the biological treatment process and at other times part of the post treatment, are referred to separately within this document.

  • ISO 50001 - Services Management

    Energy management systems — Requirements with guidance for use

    This document specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system (EnMS). The intended outcome is to enable an organization to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance and the EnMS.

    This document:

    a) is applicable to any organization regardless of its type, size, complexity, geographical location, organizational culture or the products and services it provides;

    b) is applicable to activities affecting energy performance that are managed and controlled by the organization;

    c) is applicable irrespective of the quantity, use, or types of energy consumed;

    d) requires demonstration of continual energy performance improvement, but does not define levels of energy performance improvement to be achieved;

    e) can be used independently, or be aligned or integrated with other management systems.

    Annex A provides guidance for the use of this document. Annex B provides a comparison of this edition with the previous edition.

  • ISO 22301 - Services Management

    Security and resilience — Business continuity management systems — Requirements

    This document specifies requirements to implement, maintain and improve a management system to protect against, reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of, prepare for, respond to and recover from disruptions when they arise.

    The requirements specified in this document are generic and intended to be applicable to all organizations, or parts thereof, regardless of type, size and nature of the organization. The extent of application of these requirements depends on the organization's operating environment and complexity.

    This document is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations that:

    a) implement, maintain and improve a BCMS;

    b) seek to ensure conformity with stated business continuity policy;

    c) need to be able to continue to deliver products and services at an acceptable predefined capacity during a disruption;

    d) seek to enhance their resilience through the effective application of the BCMS.

    This document can be used to assess an organization's ability to meet its own business continuity needs and obligations.

  • ISO 21939-2 - Environment Safety

    Method to calculate and express energy consumption of industrial wastewater treatment for the purpose of water reuse — Part 2: Accounting for energy recovery

    This document sets out the general principles for, and provides guidance on, the quantitative characterization of energy recovery from wastewater and sludge treatment, and how to account for this in the total energy consumption calculation.

    The scope of this document includes:

    —     a definition of the main energy recovery processes applicable to industrial wastewater treatment and sludge treatment for reuse, such as anaerobic digestion yielding biogas;

    —     an introduction to the possible forms of energy generated by energy recovery processes and systems, such as electricity, steam or heat, and how to account for intentional wasting or commercial utilization of biogas;

    —     guidance on the value to be taken into account as quantification of the energy generated, including the power actually generated on average;

    —     a limit level for contaminated components in biogas allowed before any utilization;

    —     principles to integrate the energy recovery results with the energy consumption in accordance with ISO 21939-1.

    Energy production which is not recovered from wastewater or sludge treatment processes is not within the scope of this document and is not included in the calculations and results expressed in it.

    Industrial wastewater classification

    This document specifies the principles, categories, and codes for the classification of industrial wastewater and is applicable to all types and sources of industrial wastewater. It provides a broad framework classifying industrial wastewater into different categories based on industry type and the associated water quality constituents, namely physical, chemical and biological characteristics with a specific code assigned based on both industry type and waste-stream classification.

  • ISO 23043 - Environment Safety

    Evaluation methods for industrial wastewater treatment reuse processes

    This document specifies the principles and framework for comprehensive evaluation of industrial wastewater treatment reuse processes, including:

    a) establishing goals and scope;

    b) illustrating the evaluation procedure; and

    c) determination of evaluation indicators (technology indicator/sub-indicators, environment indicator/sub-indicators, resource indicator/sub-indicators, economy indicator/sub-indicators).

    This document describes how to comprehensively evaluate industrial wastewater treatment reuse processes using the proposed calculation approaches and recommended indicators. It does not specify methodologies for single evaluation indicators.

    The document is intended to provide assistance to a broad range of industrial wastewater treatment and reuse project stakeholders including professionals (planning, management, designers, and operators), administrative agencies (monitoring, assessment, regulation and administration) and local authorities.

    This document is applicable to

    a) evaluating comparing and selecting industrial wastewater treatment reuse processes,

    b) implementing continuous improvements,

    c) upgrading processes and improving performance for existing treatment and reuse facilities.

    The intended application of the comprehensive evaluation result is considered within the goal and scope definition.

  • ISO 16075-3 - Environment Safety

    Guidelines for treated wastewater use for irrigation projects — Part 3: Components of a reuse project for irrigation

    This document covers the system's components needed for the use of treated wastewater (TWW) for irrigation. Emphasis is placed on irrigation methods, mainly drip irrigation, as this method represents an efficient method of irrigation and water saving, while reducing the pollution of the crops. Despite the fact that water quality and filtration of treated wastewater (herein TWW) using drip irrigation are critical, open irrigation systems are more popular and are frequently used for irrigation with TWW and therefore are covered in this document.

    This document covers issues related to the main components of a TWW irrigation project, including the following:

    —    pumping stations;

    —    storage reservoirs;

    —    treatment facilities (for irrigation purposes);

    —    filtration and disinfection;

    —    distribution pipeline networks;

    —    water application devices: irrigation system components and treatment.

    This document is not intended to be used for certification purposes.
